This short grounding practice invites leaders, healthcare providers, and community advocates to create space and stillness internally to prepare to be more receptive to unexpected partnerships, and maintain a spirit of optimism in the face of ongoing changes in public health. Learning to pause and return to an internal feeling of possibility, can help leaders, providers, and advocates discover new places for collaboration, imaginative approaches to old problems, and give tools necessary to navigate the road ahead.
Public health works to protect and improve the health of communities through disease prevention, environmental safety, racial equity, and more. The public health system, however, has not always served everyone equally. From early efforts rooted in racism to unethical medical practices and mistreatment of Black people, distrust in public health remains.
Five years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, public health faces a radically different landscape: insufficient funding, partisanship, conflicting federal and local priorities, distrust, reduced access to data, and more.
Experts shared collaborative strategies to safeguard public health while reimagining a system that is more equitable, inclusive, and responsive to communities. The conversation explored:

Convened by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The Intersection brings together people who work inside and outside of healthcare to build anti-racist health systems. It’s a place where community and justice advocates, healthcare providers, and public health experts can share their experiences, provide feedback on how to tackle challenges, and talk about what’s working.
